Playsmelter-2015PlaySmelter calls for scripts by Northern creators. Sudbury’s festival of new play readings is calling for projects to develop during PlaySmelter 2015. The third installment of the festival will take place in Sudbury in May 2015.

For 2015, PlaySmelter is calling for projects not just from Sudbury, but from anywhere in Northern Ontario. The festival also has an interest in non-text-based creation.

This exciting initiative, offers the opportunity for emerging and established writers to dig through their raw materials and refine them. Selected writers will work one-on-one with a dramaturg, developing their plays in a workshop environment with professional actors over several months, and will finally see their work tested in front of a live audience. Over the past two years, PlaySmelter has developed 10 original pieces by Northern creators, offered playwriting intensives for the community, and master classes with Emil Sher (author of STC’s upcoming production of Mourning Dove) and Colleen Murphy (winner of the Governor General’s Award).
